Age: Canonly, Merrill is not given an age in game, though there is discussion on her supposed age being her early twenties. Given the youth of her appearance (though with Elves, it's hard to tell really) and her naivety of the world, it's easy to think that she's too young to have the real world experience like someone else from Thedas does (IE: Hawke, Varric).
Gender/Sex: Female, most definitely.
Appearance: "Do you not see the pointy ears and tattoos? I'm Dalish."
A lanky Dalish Elf (and quite proud of that, much to Fenris' annoyance), Merrill is a pale woman with short, messy dark hair. Her green eyes are wide, framed by her vallaslin that is essentially tattooed on her forehead, cheeks and chin. She wears no jewelry, not even piercings in her pointed ears that stick out from the messy hair. She likes to be barefoot and will remark on how the ground/floor feels every now and then. She's of average height for a Dalish elf, which is roughly the size for a human in Thedas. Just lankier/thinner.

History: Merrill is an elven mage that is the First to her Keeper of the Dalish’s Sabrae clan (an apprentice). She has a love for her people’s history, knowing that some day she’ll be the one to be Keeper and have all the knowledge of it. One piece of history is a tainted Eluvian she has kept, and been denied help in cleansing it from her Keeper, Marethari. With her want to reconstruct the Eluvian, Merrill turns to the forbidden blood magic, going as far as meeting a ‘spirit’ (which turns out to be a pride demon). Keeper Marethari and Merrill argue about the young Dalish’ actions.
Marian Hawke comes along and befriends Merrill, who is happy to leave her increasingly hostile clan in favor of living in Kirkwall’s Alienage in the Lowtown. Despite being Hawke’s friend and companion throughout the rest of the game, she is constantly at odds with both Anders and Fenris, who disapprove of her choice to turn to blood magic.
A few years pass, and Hawke now lives up in the rich district of Hightown and Merrill continues to happily live in Lowtown where she continues to work on the Eluvian and cleansing it, repairing it. She goes to Marethari to request a special dagger to use for the Eluvian, but the Keeper invokes the right of exchange for it. Merrill and the others slay a gigantic spider-like beast before returning to find that the Keeper has been telling the other Dalish that she may be carrying the taint of darkspawn. The Keeper gives Hawke the dagger.
Another three years go by, the Qunari in Kirkwall are gone (much to her disappointment). Merrill still works on the Eluvian, finding a way to perhaps fix it without the dagger Hawke was given. The ‘spirit’ she contacted years ago, Merrill contacts again, not realizing that it’s a powerful pride demon named Audacity.
Going with Hawke to Sundermount, Merrill discovers that the Keeper has already gone ahead and released Audacity, allowing it to possess her instead of Merrill, who would have been its first victim. A battle ensues, and Merrill has to kill Audacity and Marethari.
Personality: Merrill is a general happy Elf (though anyone’s happy compared to someone like Fenris) and tries to look at the bright side of almost any situation (probably why Varric’s nickname for her is ‘Daisy’). She is, however, very naïve of the world around her, and even of her own people. She doesn’t dwell much on the shambled room she calls a ‘house’, and remarks on things that seem to be very common with surprise (“I fell off the pier the other day. The harbor is so deep!”) and sometimes spoils plans and distractions. An example of that would be when Hawke attempted to distract some guards by saying there was a fire elsewhere they should tend to, and Merrill remarking how there really wasn’t a fire (“No, Merrill. There isn’t. It’s a distraction.” “Oh, well that’s very clever.”) Despite this, if pushed enough, she can have some biting remarks to retort with, usually with Anders and Fenris, whom she doesn't really get along with.
When given the right things, she can be very focused, especially during battle – she can keep focus on not only fighting, but keeping an eye on how others are doing within the group. She also keeps a good, probably slightly unhealthy, focus on her task of cleansing and repairing the Eluvian.
Despite her mistakes and her dealings in blood magic, Merrill is a Dalish that means well despite how others view her.
Abilities:
Merrill is a mage. A blood mage, specifically.
List of her Ability Skill Trees and her Abilities gained:
•Primal
"The mage commands earth and sky." // Stone and Electricity magic
- Stone Fist; Petrify; Rock Armor; Chain Lightning; Tempest
•Spirit
"Spirit magic shakes foes to the core, partially bypassing resistances and effectively countering enemy mages."
- Spirit Bolt; Death Syphon; Dispel Magic; Walking Bomb
•Dalish Pariah
"Merrill has never quite felt like she's fit in, and her choices have only furthered the gap between her and her people." // Blood Magic [This ability is not affected by the Music as that magic from within rather than from an outside source]
- Solidarity (locked in friendship); Outcast; Blood of the First; Wounds of the Past; Wrath of the Elvhen; Ensnare; Stone's Throw
Inventory: Did they bring anything into the game that exceeds "a set of clothes"? This section can also be updated if they gain other interesting things. (This is a section the mods will be looking at closely.)
•Torch of Falon'Din staff
•Awakened's Might ring
Anything else: Gameplay: Merrill was locked in as a friend, not romanced by anyone as Isabela left with the artifact that the Arishok wanted. Merrill’s Dalish clan is alive as well.
Update: With Solas' departure on Feb. 4th 2016, Merrill is now the semi-legal guardian of the wolf-pup, Harel
